Question About Peroxide

35% I generally soak over night but have also soaked for 5 hrs. and can't tell any difference really. I have done 9 Elk, 1 Bear, 3 Antelope and 8 Deer with the same batch and it is still plenty potent.

 

Sealed in 5 gallon buckets. Some times it is right after another. It does loose efficiency if left out to he air. I have used for several months and it seams to work.

 

I generally use 12 to 27% and it lasts for quite a long time. Keep it in a sealed 5 gallon bucket. If the bucket is not black, wrap it with something that will block out the light or keep it stored in a closed area that is dark. Make a very small hole in the lid to let off air pressure. A heated pin, very tiny drill bit, tiny nail or brad will do. I do not dilute it and soak skulls until they are white to the clients liking. As the peroxide gets older, it will still do the job, just take a little longer. With the strong peroxide, I find that it whitens enough after several hours. Light and heat are the enemies of peroxide. Keep the bucket in the dark and in a cool area if you have one.

 

I’ve been having a hard time finding it as well, although I don’t know if living in different countries or anything like that has anything to do with it? I’m in Canada and the only stuff I can find is on the shelf at the grocery store... it’s 5% (still works, just takes forever...)

 

USA seems more user friendly for peroxide. It can be an ingredient in making explosives and that might be why. In Canada, check with any place that sells supplies for pools and spas. Ask for "Pool Shock" for non chlorinated pools/spas. You have to be very specific about this as there is a chlorinated version you do not want to play with. Tell them you have a spa that is not chlorinated and you need the "Shock" for it. It should be a gallon of liquid with a name brand like Pool Mate or Baquacil. You might also be able to order it. Do NOT tell them you want it for bleaching bone. I know of at least one instance where someone was honest in what they were going to do with it when asked and they were then refused. What it is, in reality, is 27% peroxide. If you get your hands on this, treat it as a dangerous chemical as it is. It will burn like hell if you get it on your skin (a mistake you make once) and, if you splash even a drop into your eyes you will be instantly and permanently blinded. But try calling around to a few pool places and see if you can get it. .. Note, I did look a bit quickly online and it seems that a lot of pool places carry some sort of dry type of shock. That is not what you want. What you want is essentially very strong peroxide. If you have any hair salon supply places, they should also have 30 or 40 VOL peroxide. Do not get the cream type if you find it. Just the plain liquid. If not in stock, they might be able to order it for you. Just say you want to experiment with hair at home.

 

The pool dealer I get mine from thanked me for telling other boneheads about it. I think they sell more Baquacil for skull whitening than for spa shock...especially on the off season.

 

I use volume40, it can be bought at any hair or beauty supply store, works amazing

 

I get mine from hydroponics stores. Its 29% and costs about $120 for 20liters. Usually Lasts me about a year.
