    Hello,

Just wanted to see if it is possible ( or if anyone has) taken a vintage animal rug ( assuming it has the legs, claws, etc) from a rug to a lifesize mount ( Either as a form mount or soft mount)

I tried to search but no luck.

    Thanks

Vintage probably no. It would more than likely have to be within only a few years and then would depend on the tan.

A vintage rug may disintegrate when rehydrated due to many factors. One being acid rot. Also, a tanned hide that is in its relative position for years usually will have a memory so that it doesn't want to readily take on a new shape.

Plus on most rugs the pads and genitals are not there , to add most rugs when stretched out to be rugged have flanks and armpit areas cut out and sewn shut to include trimming and shaping of the hide . So most likely the whole hide isn’t there . But I will also agree you most likely won’t be able to rehydrate it with out it falling apart.

weren't the man eaters of Tsavo at the field museum taken from rug to lifesizes? Not implying that I would attempt to do that, all the above mentioned I agree with.

Again would depend on the tan and age but it is possible on rugs that would only be a few years old. Years ago i did turn a African lion rug into a life size, but it was only mounted for a few years and it was tanned by New Method. Soaked up perfect. Anything very old i just don't see it happening.

I did a polar bear. tested small parts before soaking the whole thing and used some of the faux fur under the bear ss yes most rugs are trimmed it turned out quite well
