I have been pondering how to make a rattlesnake buzz after it's mounted.....

Has anyone engineered a way to do this?

Would love to have one in my shop that does this..

Back in the 1990's they were producing them. Rheinlander Snake Products rattle kit. 12 volt motor assembly, ac adapter, motion detector.

    Old address:
    Rheinlander Taxidermy Products
    Rt. 3 Box65a
    Lockhart, TX 78644

A starting point to find one.

Also ask Kathy Blomquist what Breakthrough magazine that had an article in it (long time ago).

    :)

    I have made several.

One was fixed in place sitting on a bail of straw in my showroom.
I made several more that were portable. Urethane foam forms.

The 120 volt one was wired I had a push button behind the counter to a vibrator in the bail of straw coming up and into the tail.
For the portable ones. I would take apart a toy car or something.
Put the little motor in the tail as close to the end as possible. The batteries in a carved-out area in the bottom of the form. Had a little antenna I could operate it with the remote.

I could pick them up and move it around very easily.

I would carry it to a picnic a party even the bar.
I got offered and accepted $500 for them. When 500 was more $ than now.

I made the fangs out of fish bones. You could see the hollow part.

Had this big burly guy come in the shop early one morning asking for directions. Before he left, I said check out my snake mount. Then I said get down close and look at those fangs.
I HIT THE BUTTON - He screamed and hit the floor rolled up in a fetal position. I laughed so hard. The guy really really got mad.
Then someone that had already seen it brought his wife in. Well, I didn't know she was pregnant. She screamed and fell down holding her stomach. I didn't laugh too much then.
I would tell you to use a momentary push button. One that you push, and it automatically releases. Sort of like a doorbell button. This will help the rattler from not getting tore up so much. But you may want a couple extra rattlers just in case. I glued two together to make it extra-long and floppy.
I've got more stories about these. But you get the drift.

I skinned a large Timber rattler or Canebrake whilst I was skinning I got to relaxed when I pulled the skin over his head . That fang stuck way up my finger.
Right away a brownish streak started coloring the inside of my arm from my wrist up. It hurt. I went to the ER. The cute doctor said "You did what?" I got bit by a dead rattle snake. hahaha She says "I'm perplexed"

    Penczak,

Before I start working with a rattlers I will use the forceps and scalpel and cut the fangs out of the mouth.... Then was I get the lower jaws and skin separated I use a pair of wire cutters and cut the bottom raker teeth out... Been hung up on them with a finger more than once....

Glen, are you going to Delaware or have you found a good sex store on the eastern shore? I guess I could look up a good recommendation for all the one's in Delaware from Hunter Biden

i think it would be a good idea to use some kind of motion detector to set off the rattle when people get real close.

hey...if someone mounted a flat crushed skunk on a look alike piece of road and called it "road kill" how would they score that ? nothing would have to be symmetrical or even correct

it wouldnt even have to be a skunk, just a small animal all twisted and distorted...instant blue ribbon.

I am pretty sure it would not be accepted at most competitions. The ones I read indicate on their forms "No perceptions of animals being hurt"
No critters caught in a steel trap, that sort of thing.

George The older I get, the better I was.

I hope you do realize you're playing with Mother Nature. Eventually the rattles and the skin will deteriorate and fall off. You're just as well off to get a recording and a motion sensor.

Have it go off if any one touches the snake.
A friend was out here and killed a rattlesnake on the road. He cut off the head and buried it. He was just watching it coiling around when 4 teenagers drove up. They jumped out and one asked if he could have the rattles. He said sure and handed the boy his knife. The kid was reluctant to touch it because it was still moving but he assured him it was dead. So the kid held down the tail and as soon as the knife started cutting the bloody stump where the head was struck the boys arm. So when he saw blood on his arm he started screaming like a Vienna boys choir. He could not be calmed down besides everyone was laughing so hard. They eventually had to help him back into the car because he was so weak from his adrenaline fiasco.
