Has anyone had experience with the method of detaching turkey wings from the cape before mounting? How would you attach the skin back together once the wing was set in place?

I've done it and its a PAIN to do , it's great taking the wings off because it is easier to manage on the wheel and I can toss the skin into the dryer instead of blow drying it for hours ... Re attaching isnt to bad with a full strut mount but the wing itself is the hard part . Once you clean the humerus bone off you have nothing to re attach the skin to on the wing other than what you used to rebuild the meat ... I've had no training nor video as to how to do the wings right but my buddy who told me to remove them is supposed to show me how to do the wings but says he hates doing them ...although hes mounted a ton of turkeys and knows how to do the wings he's been in no hurry to show me how yet
I did a dead mount Turkey recently and luckily had a second set of wings first set didn't work out well ... Won't mount my buddies bird till he helps with the wings .. Once he shows me I'll be glad to pass along the info ....

I leave the scaps attached to the wing.

I bend a loop at the end of the humerus wing wire and Bondo it into a hole I drilled into the form after my skin is mounted.

I just use Alex acrylic plus silicone as a hide paste. I pin the body skin in place and then pin the scaps to the proper place and pin around the underside of the wing. The pins and caulk hide paste holds it in place very well. Pinning the scaps in another place or two can help.

I do almost the same as tanglewood except I leave the scapes on the cape. There a great video on fb that shane smith posted about this and his bodies. Which to me shane Smith turkey bodysuit are 2nd to none

Thanks guys. This is only my 2nd turkey and the first I’ve removed wings on. I left scaps on the cape and I’m really struggling to stabilize them in place. If anyone had pictures of them actually doing this part of the process that would be awesome. I appreciate the input very much.

Same problem I had. Just my first one using his system though.

I also had this problem. I solved it by leaving scaps on the wing instead of on the cape. It made a world of difference.

At what point do you apply the hide paste? Before placing cape on or through the wing holes after the skin is on.?

Through the wing holes after the skin is on. Put the caulk on the form under the skin and press the caulk under the skin and work the caulk and skin into position and pin in place.

I wrap the humerus with polyester batting.
