Hello. I am trying to sell a large black bear rug that I took in British Columbia in Spring 2006. I know this is forum is set up to support taxidermist. I was given this info by a local taxidermist to try. I have tried CL & EBay. They quickly took it down because of platform violations. I am not on Facebook but it is also a violation in their marketplace rules. I have it listed for 1165.00. That is what I paid to have it done in 2006. Not sure if that is unrealistic and am open to some feedback or information to rehome. Am I asking too much? What would be a fair price? I am open to pricing to allow a commission to be made for a buyer. I figured y’all have access to customers interested. I am not a taxidermist or a scammer (as I read). But now that I think about it. I am getting a lot of email scams after posting my email here. I will be glad to give a phone number to an email inquiry. I am located in the San Antonio area. I am open to driving 750+ miles for a committed sale. No money up front. Any feedback would be appreciated and maybe beneficial to some other sellers. Bear seems to be a taboo animal hide to sell. Even here in Texas. Thank you

For one ck into your state and federal laws on if you are even allowed to sell the bear , then pics would be helpful in selling if allowed and lastly yes your price is to high for a normal bear rug , there is not much value unless it is in some way very unique. It is basically valued at what someone will pay for it , taxidermy mounts are like cars they loose all value as soon as there taken from shop. The value is in how much it cost to mount it and that’s only to the taxidermist.

    Yeah, what 13 point said.

And additionally, for the most part, the value of the trophy is to the person who took the trophy. It was their hunt and their memories, etc. So, unfortunately, that high value doesn’t easily transfer to someone who is just looking for interior decoration.

Around this area, you would be lucky if you could get $250. for it. Like was already stated, It's only worth something to the person who harvested it. What you paid in taxidermy costs, you will never get back out of it. It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
