Some nut case just brought me a deer that was sitting in his truck for 5 days. stinks like hell almost lost my lunch. i skinned it out and so far the hair is holding . just got a bottle of stop rot. what should i do first stop rot or salt

  2. Trashcan would be my option even with the stop rot on hand. But if you insist on saving this cape, the Stop Rot immediately, then everything else. :)

Sounds like the guy I had come by about 8 years go with a pronghorn he wanted to mount. It was in the back of his open pickup truck in the sun, only gutted and it sat there for 10 days while he stayed out west bird hunting. Then wondered why his cape wasn't any good I told him there wasn't anything good on the entire animal. Hell , the hair slipped off of it on the one side when he pulled it to the back of the truck. Stupid people and they are allowed hunt.

I've had guys bring me rotting spring bears with maggots crawling out of the nostrils. My one employee puked.

If you're barfin over poorly handled stuff, here's a great trick. A little Vick's Vapor rub under the nose, does wonders. You might still smell something bad, but it wont be as bad as if you didn't have anything at all. What do you think the coroners and CSI types use?

Vick's Vapor rub does help with bad smells. I work with the Fire Dept. and have had to help put people in body bags that had been dead for several days. I carry some in my truck for those really bad wrecks to help with the "smell of death".

sounds like a bear i took in. the guy shot it three days before he found it. the whole back end of the bear was crawling with magots. luckily i talked him into a half life mount. i sprayed it with stop slip or stop rot which ever you want to call it and everything held. its pretty amazing stuff.
