JUMPIN' JEHOSAPHAT! Terry, that salmon looks like a pig with fins! I mean it's a great job and I'd like to ask how much she weighed? DougP.....Don't be surprised if the moderator moves your fish to the reference section. ;D And thanks for more pictures for my screensaver slideshow. ;) Excellent crappies!

Marc... LOVE the gar. Skin mount or reproduction (and if so, whose?). I've never done a gar but I'd like to soon: my dad's really gotten into gar (bowfishing) in recent years. I'm thinking he needs one for his wall, perhaps a birthday or Christmas present. Anyway, that gar looks great Marc.

    Doug... Those crappie look fabulous!

Perca... I'd have to look, but I think the blank was listed as 45"/49#. It's certainly at the upper end of what we see going up the Nushagak River (ours are smaller than the Kenai kings). The customer says that's the size it was... so that's the size it is. ;D He actually caught it quite a few years ago.

Thanks for the kind words about the king... Have a great Monday everyone.

  5. Thanks Aaron, Terry, Doug...Love the crappies. Nice to see side by side postings of a black and white.
T.N.B. tossed me out on my ear...seems I was taking a page out of Percas book...LOL!
Terry, the gar is a skin mount. They are very strange to skin as they seem to want to hold their shape as you clean them out. the scales are like little seashells when cutting into them.

Nice job this week guys. Nothing for me.

Terry. I like your coloring on the head and around the mouth. What colors did you use?

Colors...Hmm... Crikey, now I have to actually think about it. ;D I typically just start throwing on colors till it looks like the reference photos...

Wildlife Colors: conderate grey, Payne's grey, warm black, hens brown and bright metallic silver

Polytranspar: Bronze gold, med. Bass/Trout green transparent, transpar violet, transpar brown, superhide white, trout red pearl

It was a combination of airbrushing and stipling (sp?)/dry brushing...

Around the mouth was a combination of black/transp.green/bronze gold/silver.

Doug, I was going to post a black crappie this week, but I don't know if I will now!!!! You make them look so full, and natural. Not a scale out of place. Very nice. Very inspirational. I am a big fan of your work!!! Very convincing fish work sir!! I have it dry,and am hopefully going to start finishing it later on today.

Well, hopefully Im done getting my tax bs done and can actually sit down and do some fish. Great work from everyone this week.

    Jimmy.

Jimmy... Regarding the "tax BS" comment...Not to brag but I have it great up here. My tax guy is superb (worked for the IRS for 20 years) plus it doesn't cost me a dime (a community grant pays for residents). PLUS... he's a fish taxidermist, so we get to talk shop while I wait. ;D

  11. Wow Great fish everyone ,there isn't a fish on here I wouldn't be proud of.The decoys even look better than some of my fish.Jimmy I must have the same tax guy except I hand mine off and Heave. :D Now that I am getting settled in the Pacific northwest I think it is about time I finish some fish that I brought with me.this site sure is an inspiration for me even though I am a part timer.
