i bought a tanned deer cape measurements 6 1/2 x 14. i ordered a 6 1/2 x 15 form by mistake. i am not sure if it will work but when i test fit the cape the brisket of the was in the right spot but there was a roll of skin at the base of the neck and head. i could not get the cape down any further but it just seemed like the neck was to long for the form.

i am not sure what to do? do i sand down the for i got so the cape slides over the for the right way at the head neck area or do i get a right form? i am open to any suggestions?

    thanks
    Sam

  2. Did you stretch the hide first. If not try that and see if it will fit. Gary

Stretch the hide for width. That will take some of the length up. Then it is just a matter of taxiing the skin. Mark S.

One hand on each side of the incision & brute strength.

  7. try something you can inflate, such as a basketball, soccerball, or lawn tractor tire tube.

Would that rip the hide if you were pulling on the incision?

  10. Did the seam come together?
It sounds as if you have an upright form, if the brisket is in the right place and the seam comes together, then you have the right form!
When you start sewing taxi the skin to reduce the wrinkles; is the skin well hydrated?

the form is a semi sneak right turn form. the cape was moist but not wet. i could not get the cape all the way down on the form to check the seam on the cape.

Try taking a long pin or your rougher and try taxiing the extra skin little by little. It should fall into place - especially if you have the cape all the way on where you say the brisket fits. One other possibility is that you haven't yet modeled in your ear butts. This will take up some of the slack. Not sure if this helps, but if you post a pic of the situation, we could better understand your problem.

you probably need to thin the neck area more. If you dont have a stretcher you can make one out of 2 2x4s and a block. Thin the hide then stretch.
