The Week in Fish Pictures~ Year 2# Week#28

Greetings from Center Port New York and the Vanderbilt Museum the home of the Largest single piece of taxidermy in the world!!! As the team nears it end of the Whale Shark project I'm reminded of when I started in taxidermy! I was awe struck with seeing mounted fish and animal and visiting the Boston Museum of Science. To have the opportunity to be a part of such an important restoration is a dream come true! I'm inspired by looking at the work of others past and present. You are never to old or experience to learn or to be humbled by the beauty of what others have done and can do! Thank you!

WOW what a great week we all shared in this past week in fish pictures! There was some really inspirational fish work last week I hope you all had a great week my friends and family of Fishheads!!! Lets start off with some Big time thanks to our great contributors this past week!

Great work last week by Cory Foth, Terry Fuller, Dave Smith, Wild Bill, Pete Szymborski, Ron Anderson, Marc, Vellu, Mike D, John C, Don Patton, and our friend Doug Petrousek!!!!!

Super work and Big thanks for sharing and aspiring all of us!

From beginner's to the best in the world we all join in every week in a critique free and hassle free string with nothing more then great artist and inspiring fish taxidermist and carves get together to share with one another their praise and inspiration of good will and friendship to one another.

This week I want to share the accomplishment and the fish work of another very talented taxidermist from the great State of Kansas Mr. Bob Helm (aka our good friend Possom Hawk). Bob had not competed in over 11 years and can back to the show with a beautiful work of fish art. Congratulations Bob and here's to sharing many more wonderful fish with all of us!

I hope you enjoy the week!
So with out further ado lets get week #28 under way.

So here we go and here is to a great week in fish pictures!!!! #28! Enjoy!

Uncle Dave I Still hope your wrist gets better!

    My Best!
    Your friend

  2. I cant wait to see that big shark done!

Well I finally have another fish to show. Its been a while for me, other projects have taken up so much time.
Here is a 33" Walleye replica.
    A fisherman's Tale Blank.
I must say a big Thank you to Dave for making a great canvas for me in this walleye.
I rarely get to just Paint a fish, normally I am molding casting then painting and by that time I am sick of it. lol
But being able to just sit and play with paint is very nice indeed.

I made custom resin eyes for this fish and I'm including a photo taken with a flash to show the reflectivity of the lens in the eye. It was a pain to get it to work right, but in the end I am happy with it.

OK here goes my 2 fish I did for the Iowa Taxidermy Show ! Personally I thought that my bluegill hybrid was the better of the 2 but I guess I was wrong. The blue gill got nailed ! Oh well it was a learning experience for me and always will be. Any how the walleye got Best of Category fish in Professional so I guess next year I move up to Master and learn a harder lesson :)

Love the crappies- tell Bob- love the frantic action!
Josh- in the words of Borat: Wa-wa-Woo-Wow!! The perfect off-whites and fleshy whites make that walleye- something overlooked by most of us!
Wildwings- walleye and bluegil: BREATHTAKING!! Wow!
Here, finally is a finished fish- no bird decoy sculptures- he he. Finally got around to finishing this cutthroat. Homemade plaster mold and homemade eyes- I did the work for a very accomplished taxidermist so it was an honor to be asked to it- hope I didn't let him down- but I cashed his check so it's all good- ha ha.

    I love the hybrid sunnie!
And Dave the cutthroat is great!!!
RDA that Cut is great looking! One fish that i have yet to catch is the cutthroat. Ive never even had a chance to work on one.

Crankin I am not sure where he got the walleye from. I think Upper MN. As far as I know I have yet to see a fox river fish top 31" I am sure they are there.

Wildwings, I agree with Jon S. The Bluegill looks "right out of the water". As all of the fish are really super. Thanks for the inspiration. Bill

It got hit on the paint. I used paints, pencils, and powders and you cant see it in the picture too well but some of my pencils didn't get blended to well. Then I didn't have fin pockets on the fish. Then the shrinkage from head to body got me. Over all I learned a few things. I don't think the judge knew it was a hybrid. My tag just said bluegill so that maybe of hurt me alittle. Next year my fish will have Artificial heads and Fins then I don't have to worry about shrinkage also I will make a groove for my fin butts to lay in. All in all I kinda am glad the Bluegill didn't do good it was a customers fish and if I did do really good I would hate to give it back to him lol. However thanks for the kind words !
