Travis, looks great! I know things can be kinda tough without a bandsaw. I am still trying to save enough $$$$$ for one.
Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!

Nice tarpon Jimmy I like the head ,nice detail. TRAVIS love the form carved cave man style.. I just recently got going on a lmb it will be my first. I also bought a grizzly 14" band saw it was 580.00 to my door ,the best price I could find. Its a sweet saw for what we are doing I put a 3/8 blade blade on it. the cut is smooth and quiet. definately a shop neccecity. My wife kind of humbugged about that purchase but Ill have it for 20 years., they have a nice resaw fence accessory. so if you use panels you could custom cut out of heavy stock lumber and save a pile... good luck and fish well . Thanks ALL for the comments. Yeah Jason the money is why I haven't bought a saw. As small of a business as I have I can't make myself spend the money. Besides it really wasn't that hard to cut it out "cave man" style. LOL

  7. Re: Anglers Artistry recent Student Work 2006-2008!

I adapted a reciprocating blade to fit my saber saw.
    Works great!!
I also dont have a band saw.
I cant afford the size I want and will just get angry using a smaller one. lol
    :D

How about a very new member to the Anglers Artistry family! Mr. Kyle Fleet of Byron Center Michigan. This was Kyle's first experience with taxidermy. When Kyle got here he re- reminded me he had never airbrushed or skinned a fish before I told his it was OK I had never taught a fish class before. After getting over his shock we both set forth on a workshop where I got to experience some one very first experience doing there first 2 fish ever! A great guy with a boatload of talent! Kyle is an art student and is studying metal fabrications and bronze work. This talented young artist had already secured his first commission work of art! Here is a beautiful Bass and a Brookie Kyle did while here for a week. Great work Kyle!
Here is Kyle and his Bass at the airport ready to go home I don't think he wanted to let this one go!

    Rick,

I want to extend my Congratulations to you on a remarkable job you have done in inspiring the art of Taxidermy. You are indeed one of a kind when it comes to instructing and getting the best out of your Students. It just shows what an Outstanding Instructor/Communicator you really are. I always enjoy coming over here on your thread and looking at the AWESOME work you and your students continue to do on a daily basis. You also HIT the number one spot in total amount of hits here on the Taxi Net made by intertested taxidermist seeking training; over 50,000, WOW. What a milestone you have achieved and yes I know it wasn't easy. You are indeed a leader in the Fish Training field of TAXIDERMY.

Re: Anglers Artistry recent Student Work 2006-2008!

Ok guys, time to use my Anglers Artistry family a bit. I would really like to have a sockeye salmon, a chum salmon, and a coho to mount for my show room. They do not have to be large, but would prefer males. If anyone has any of the above, I would gladly pay for the shipping to get them here! The sockeye is what I am really after, the others would just be bonus fish! :) Anyways, if anyone can hook a brother up, that would rock. I dont get a lot of stuff here to offer as a trade, but maybe I can get a steelhead or a large NY brown for someone this fall if they would like it.

Re: Anglers Artistry recent Student Work 2006-2008!

John and Bill!!!! To even be thought of by such gentlemen in our industry who set the pace for education both in personal and in large class environments no words I could express could show the value and the humbleness I feel for your kindness! Thank you both! I too am an enormous fan of the works of your students as well! As I know many of the wonderfully talented folks I have had the privilege to work with also share in your gifts you both pass on to the eager motivated artist you both help shape. I give nothing more then merely one thing… New eyes! Not the glass ones LOL! I want all who leave me after spending time and hard earned money to leave with the ability and the new passion to see fish or nature for that matter in a new light. To see and learn now from a perspective that lets the techniques and the persons own God given ability to manifest what is now seen in to a physical action of beauty!

I love to teach and to spend time with folks who are already so motivated and ready to move on to the next level! I know you both enjoy this blessing!

I want to share some tremendous work of a good friend and a family member Mr. Travis Jones of Seaboard NC. Travis is the reason and the many who work as hard as he does to never stop pushing to take what he learned and surpass what he left with as exampled in his breathtaking Maih Maih! Way to go Travis J!!!!

Thank you again and here’s to the next fellow taxidermist who today wants to be more and do more then just what is standard!

    My Best!
    Rick Krane
