Third bird.

Discussion in 'Bird Taxidermy' started by RyanP, Sep 24, 2008.

  1. This is my third bird mount, a coot. It is my best mount yet. I just finished it today, and am wondering if their are any adjustments i should make before it gets too dry. I rebuilt the natural skull, used a cheek inscision to skin the head. I also carved the form to save money. it was my first carved form. here are the pics
Please give me your thoungts on it.

You need to make sure your body is good and dry to staart the mounting process. your feathers are really flat. Check your reference on your legs, look alittle far back, not bad for a third bird though!!!! Aint it fun, and now you cant wait for the next bird!!!!!!

Did you measure the body, neck and the likes before you started?
You need to work on your grooming, from behind the legs do not look right either.

Also why are you using string to hold down the plumage?
this is not going to do you any good when the bird dries. It will interfere with the natural placement of the birds feathers.....
Use clear packing tape, just remove some of the glue by placing it on a clean cloth first. It works very well and holds everything in place.
