Just got my first batch of wet tanned deer capes back from my tannery. Problem is they are loaded with cowlicks. I first noticed this problem last year when I sent a few out (usually tan myself). This batch I kept a careful eye on and know these capes had zero cowlicks when they left. Are the wet tan chemicals causing this? Is there a cure besides gels and carding? I would love some feedback from you tannery guys as well. Thanks in advance.

Re-hydrate them. Should straighten things up.

rehydrating a wet tan ??? I would gel it and card the hell out of it. You could wash the cape and see if that makes a difference...doubt it, but maybe worth a try.

Tricia- I'm going to try washing the capes. I'll let you know. I guess I'm wondering if this is normal and to be expected or is it just my tannery. These cowlicks are bad and will certainly affect my finished product.
