  1. THAT'S A TIMES TWO BIG TIME
if you were in the construction field and the Industrial field's of work
and pretty close to different trades you would notice a lot of things

For what it's worth, the original Buckeye Hide Paste was an underlayment adhesive! I used to use all sorts of carpet and tile adhesives. A friend of mine would give me all the partial buckets of glue that he had left for jobs. He never started any new job with "old" adhesive, it just didn't "look" good to his customers. I usually added dexterine to the glue to "stiffen" it up to the consistency I wanted. It also became a bit "stickier".

so the carpet glue gets old and brittle? I think that buy the time the glue gets brittle the hide should be dry and I think by the time the hide is dry it has a memory and will stay where the hide has been for the last past several years. you people kill me with this hide paste bull shit. hell if the hide will stay put until it drys it is that shape I don't care if the form ruts the hide is that shape.

  4. Good God, Nobody said don't use it, all that was given was an OPINION, you can take it or leave it. If you want to use whatever to do your work then use it. I could care less if you think it works or not. There are so many different ways things can be done. If your good with it then great! None of us will agree on everything all the time, but that doesn't make anything bull crap. People that come in to a discussion with an attitude is what kills me. I also didn't know a form ruts, what the hell does that mean? LOL! :D

sorry my bad i ment rot!
Im sure the form dosn't rot I said if the form did rot it is just a way of saying the shape is there glue or no glue..

  6. Cameraman, I respect anyones opinion on here, but it doesn't mean I will agree, and if I do not agree we can talk about it, thats what goes on here. Do you really think that if a form could rot that the hide would keep it's shape? As I said earlier in the post I have been a wood flooring contractor for 20yrs. There are many different products on the market for a glue down installation, some are cheaper than others. I have found that the cheaper glue is only that, cheap glue. When having to do repairs on flooring that was glued with these products, there is a big difference in how easy it is to remove the area being repaired. I have seen flooring put down with what I consider a better quality glue that has damage from the same issues as some floors that had cheaper glue used and the damage was minimal in comparison. So you can see why I do not look for the cheapest way do do anything. Most, and I mean most not all but most of the time when it comes to material you get what you pay for. I wish that were true with all things but I will do things the way I think is best not cheapest. Not once during this thread did someone say DO NOT USE, we are just discussing different ideas, there was no attitude with any reply until you posted that the glue talk was crap. To me if a glue is made to be under carpet to hold it down, it shouldn't become less stable by doing what carpet is there for, walking on. If my floors only lasted 10years and the glue would then break down from walking on, I would find it hard to stay in business. ;) There are some great ideas for glue that can be used, MP's glue mix works great and is just an example that there are many ways to do things, use what you will.

As said my bad I didn't mean to come off as an attitude. I don't think I was the one WITH CAPS! anyway I sorry if I offended someone. I was just trying to say in a round about way that just cause someone dosnt like the way someone else dose it, dosn't mean it wont work. agian sorry for stepping on toes!

  8. No toes stepped on, the caps were just to stress my point, no attitude meant. I agree with that to, thats why I posted to use it if you wanted. Sometimes it's hard to read if someone has a tone when replying, no tone here. :)

Carpet Glue, we are restoring an old house the carpet must be at least 40 years old. Glued. We pulled up the carpet but all the glue stayed on the underlayment! It will remain with the house...lol. It would seem to me that here again things change and with all our eco-friendly laws now that the glue probably would not be the same and again money talks! The cost that is!

  11. Any kind you choose. LOL :D I actually use McKenzie past but I do sort of what bill was saying, I add allot of dextrin and water and double the amount of paste. I have considered MP's mix to, seems like folks that use it really like it.

I have found the cheaper clay based adhesives become hard and brittle with no flex at all. I personally have used them and they don't compare to a good premium adhesive.

  14. I don't know about using carpet glue on mounts, but I am laying carpet in the office and have a couple buckets of hide paste laying around. Could I use the hide paste on the carpet? ;D

Liquid Nails Cove Base is a darn good hide glue...it is not cheap. My son was in the floor business a few years back. I used his leftover cove base. Another was Marpei (I think) cove base adhesive.

  16. joey,
It is called mapei, I also layed floors for 25 years and the glue is now different these days.
the glues that are out now will work if you use a good glue but I would add dextrin to it to make it stiffer and stickier.
Lino glue will work also as it is the same as carpet glue but not as thick so you need to thicken it up.
I have gone back and ripped up carpet that I have installed in commercial areas 10-15 years later and you cant hardly
get the carpet off the floor.
But like DS says you have to use a premium adhesive to get those results.

As a flooring installer as well...if you want a adhesive that sticks like nothing you have ever seen..try using the adhesive used for installing dura-ceramic..but you better work fast because once it starts to get tacky..i dont care who u are you will not move it

  18. i know this is a really old thread but, carpet is constantly being walked on, therefore the glue may breakdown.. mounts stay stationary so the glue wont be disrupted much

I just installed some dura-ceramic. The glue is too much like contact cement and really doesn't allow the time necessary for taxidermy work....plus it's VERY EXPENSIVE! It DOES STICK, just a bit too fast.

  20. not a carpet glue its a wall paper glue Roamns, but its cheaper and no shipping you can find it at sherwin williams or most hardware stores try it
