you can try the stop rot but if feathers are coming out that bad then it is probably a lost cause, was it not shipped properly? 5 days out of the freezer is a long time unless it is mid winter in northern states, this time of year should have been shipped 2 day at least.

  3. I di have them shipped priorty US mail..... and they got mis directed the postoffice said ... s#### F@#@!% post office. so im in to the two birds . thanks any way they were pretty nice also.. im thinking denatured alohal may be ideas? mark c

JonHarleTX Ya'll hear that. George just signed in. Quick Hide

something small like a golden I would send overnight. But just incase it were to get lost I #1 would have, turned wings, legs, and head. Boraxed liberally, then wet the skin so that it was covered in a "borax paste" so to speak. Then froze. Then insulated the heck out of the package.. at least 2 to 3 inches of insulation around the whole thing.

So in the event that the post office behaves as the post office normally does, at least the bird would have stayed fozen (cold) longer, and instead of rotting, it would have pickled itself.

Of course, this is all in hindsight now..

I too doubt that it is salvageable.. Once they start slipping, the pretty much just self distruct.

Jimmy Rimrock Yeah, they come to snuff the rooster

Another from the hindsight department......You get what you pay for.......That's why FedEx is in business. Have it shipped "hold at location" at the latest drop=off time; about 1630, you go and pick it up at about 0900 from the station. Having worked for them for a year and half, I could do a tutorial on the ins and outs of overnight shipping.

Priority mail definitely is not a safe way to ship anything persihable.
It's a tough lesson, but at least it wasn't eiders or something else that would prove to be nearly impossible to replace.
