58" Eastern Diamondback "My Snake"

Here is the Eastern Diamondback that MJRoberts and I captured last June while I was down in central FL. I mounted it this week during the snake mounting blitz I had so I could choose a couple specimens for the upcoming show(s). This is my personal snake and will be put on a habitat base and some of you may possibly see this snake in person. : Hey MJ! if you read this I still need some freakin' sand!

Very nice Perry, whats the snake to the right?

This is what I skinned today..... I gonna have to use a repro head on him, he was slipping bad and the head had some issues plus he has several injuries on him, Im thinking maybe road kill? FYI I made a alginate mold of him and used a blow dryer to dry the mold a bit...then used Smoothcast and it worked great,( they say you cant use casting resins in Alginate molds..not true) I had tried my usual bondo but it was to thick to displace the air in the tight areas of the head and tail. Will see how he turns out. Thank goodness I had made a cast of it head. Will see if I can pull it off.

You are correct..........

I have paper-towel dried alginate molds and hair-dried them when pouring 2 part plastics....okay for making forms, but not so good on reproduction work. Crap shoot.

It's a bad idea to use urethanes in alginate.Water makes urethanes go haywire.There is an additive for the alginate that is supposed to let you use urethanes,though I haven't tried it.

I immobilized this one by whacking him behind the head with a short piece of 1/2 CPVC pipe! Then we wrestled him into a corn sack and strapped him to the 4 wheeler rack and headed back to Mike's parents. Where I dumped him out of the bag and took several pics of him before delivering a fatal blow to the same area. The best way is to have a set of snake tongs and catch the snake and drop it into a freezer for a day or so.
