I have also used denatured alcohol, it has worked for me. It toughens up the skin.

GregJ- I read a tutorial that after skinning a hide you can soak it in denatured alcohol to set the hair. I tried it and it worked fine for me.
Can you reuse denatured alcohol after soaking a small hide in it, or should I pitch it and use new? Thanks.
