I use foam neck material that is 1" diameter and 6.5-7 in long

  3. i use 3/4 neck material with a 1/4 esophagus underneath. most are 7-7 1/2 inches long by my measurments.

This is what i do too. I like the look of the esophagus under the regular round neck. The shin taxis nice around it too.
Fron the head junction to the body 7 - 7/12" on the one I worked on last.

These deep South, Louisiana mallards must be slacking in the neck race. ;D

duckhntr, I noticed that too I have only done 10 ducks or so and it seems like ducks here in Louisiana are much smaller. It seems like all the forms I order need to be small ones
Have any of yall southern taxidermist noticed that too, is it b/c of the migration

    Migratiory Birds Shrink?????
    Never heard that one....
When you order your forms maybe you should measure your birds first....
Most forms come in two sizes....Some even more.

Maybe your Local holdovers are smaller, or maybe you are just getting young birds....

If you get a catalogue from Dan Rinehart's, He lists the length and girth.

As far as neck size. Make it a bit smaller and taxi the skin to get the fullness you want.

I've gotten away from using the foam neck material.

    1. It kinks
    2. It breaks loose from the head.
    3. it isn't shaped right
    4. It makes it hard to get the correct head neck union.
    5. It breaks pretty easy.
    6. It doesn't do anything to make the neck more structurally sound

other than that it's fast and does work.
