I was recently informed by a taxidermist I work for that upon rehdration, a bear hide I had tanned for him started losing hair. After I had caged and combed it out in my shop, there didn't seem to be any hair loss. Can anyone give me some advice as to what may have happened on rehydration? I use Knobloch's tanning products and a standard method of tanning. The taxidermist uses luke warm water for about a half an hour for rehydration. Any explanation would be helpful.

Did you wet tan the hide? If so there was no need to hydrate it and the warm water can hurt.
If it was a dry tan and then he hydrated it was salt added to the solution?
Did you shave the bear to thin? This could cause hair loss.
This is tough for you don't know what really could of happened. It becomes your word against his and you being the tanner, you get all the blame for it.
