I have a Raccoon in my freezer that I want to make into a full body hat.I would like to know if I can just pull the tail bone out and use liquid preservative or do I have to split and tan it?Any advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Jaque1

George The older I get, the better I was.

Split and tan it. Otherwise it will break off.

I always split the Raccoon tails ,mainly because of the thick fat in them. This way you can get to that fat better and remove it..............GL

I am working on my first full body coon hat as well. I split the tail. There is a lot of fat in there! it was easy to split and look easy to sow togeather. I was going to use a strip of round foam from the hardware store.
