I have spoken with SEVERAL other taxidermists and tanneries over the last 3 weeks and the topic of the Wildlife Gallery stealing clients from other taxidermists keeps popping up.......I was just wondering if anyone else has heard of this......or has had this happen to them........mainly on safaris or imports. I am not making accusations but the question itself makes me very nervous about sending tanning to these guys.....any information on this subject would be very helpful.

Becky P One must believe the glass is half full.

How do you "steal" a customer? Customers have minds of their own, they go where they want.

  3. My goal every year is to steal as many customers I can through quality work, decent turn around and reasonable pricing. If you say you don't try to steal customers you're lying. Sorry the WLG is offering something you don't.

But that's not stealing,AndyO, that's better business. I thought that's how things were supposed to work.

  5. Many compeditors consider you "stealing" their customers if they start using you. I don't agree with some of the stuff the WLG is doing probably because I'm jealous I cant pull it off.

Maybe I just don't understand your problem. So are you telling your customers that WLG is doing your tanning and sending them up there to see their work? Dude nobody tells a customer who tans there stuff (I wouldn't think) cause then the customer figures they can cut out the middle man to save money (the mark up).
Sounds to me more like possibly you may need to sharpen up your business skills.

If you send your customers to The Wildlife Gallery with his cape (s) to be tanned, they will be charged retail price. That is twice what a taxidermist would pay.

EXACTLY!! and there just went $40 out the door from tanning mark up (that's just business) plus the fact that sending the man out the door says you are not that interested in doing the mount for him. Don't know what you think but I say get the damn thing in and a small deposit to finalize the deal. If I wanted a beer and the bartender told me to go down the street and see what the other bars had for variety and price where the heck do you think I am going to tie one on that night?

They're not stealing anything. Seems like this came up, last year. Do top notch work, like they do and don't worry about what they are doing. It is just good business

What I was talking about is taxidermists have their safaris shipped to them for clearing & tanning & THEY call the customer & convince them to let WLG do the taxidermy work too. Then the taxidermists is SOL!!!

hmmm, now that I would have an issue with. I'd be changing tanneries. They have no business calling your customers. Your customers aren't their customers, you are.

Regardless of your quality, they should not be contacting your customers - period.

I agree, that it would be very unethical for them to contact your clients. Are the "several" taxidermists, that you've spoken with, the people this has happened to? Or are they just telling you what they've heard? It would be nice to hear it from the horses mouth if true.

Well deer57hunter. If you have a real name, I will look into your statement and get you a true answer.

  18. I had a JACKASS call one of my customers and called me a hack! Pissed me off. It's not like little ol me is going to take all of his business but I would in a heart beat now that I know he's spreading CRAP about my work. He's one of those guys that took over a shop after the old man died and still does it the OLD fashioned way. DP'd skins and pop eyed deer three weeks after they are dry.

I have never used them but I certainly wouldnt switch to them from my current tanner. They are competition plain & simple but Taxidermists, being the dumbest business men in the world, will continue to support their competition. I have mounted capes they tanned & dont think they are any better than Sivko or CFD anyway. Absolutely no reason to patronize them.

Anyone at Wildlife Gallery care to comment? Does your company, or anyone there, approach a customer directly, circumventing the taxidermist who sent the job?
