With regard to inquires posted on the forum, we received permission to gather information and post which we hope will be helpful.

This year for the 2009 NTA election there were a total 1,595 ballots mailed out by the CPA. As a side note, only those persons joining before May 1st were eligible to vote. All votes must be returned to CPA postmarked by June 23rd. As of today, June 5th, the NTA has a total of 1,676 members.

I did a quick research of our membership numbers with regard to convention location prior to our national show. These numbers were taken from the Executive Directors reports which are given to the Board. There is a fluctuation in numbers due to the fact that the association by and large picks up and loses 300-500 members depending upon the location of the show that year. Keep in mind that 2001 was the year that state affiliation went into effect and that last year, for the Lubbock convention, gas prices were over $4.00 a gallon.

July 7, 2000 Lubbock, Texas the NTA had 1,780 members.
July 7, 2001 Columbia, Missouri the NTA had 1,840 members.
July 7, 2002 Columbia, Missouri the NTA had 1,973 members.
July 7, 2003 Louisville, Kentucky the NTA had 2,036 members.
June 30, 2004 Huntsville, Alabama the NTA had 2,064 members.
July 16, 2005 Sioux Falls, South Dakota the NTA had 2,079 members.
July 12, 2006 Billings, Montana the NTA had 1,845 members.
July 12, 2007 Louisville, Kentucky the NTA had 1,934 members.
July 1, 2008 Lubbock, Texas the NTA had 1,667 members.

    Respectfully Submitted,

Thanks Cindy for the numbers. Even our own state memberships/participation tends to fluctuate depending on the location the show is held each year. The last several years it has been held in a central location and the numbers have stabilized.
It would be interesting to obtain the number of taxidermists holding a Federal waterfowl permit from FWS ( it might have to be a FOI). Yes I understand that not everyone does migratory waterfowl. But it would provide a useful information on the approximate total number of taxidermists nationwide.

Please folks, if and when someone is mad at the NTA in a future post, do remember that Cindy did come to the forums like this and post accurate numbers for us.

Cindy made the "majority" of us happy by posting numbers Bill. We are VERY grateful for her hard work. Unfortunately we caused her more work. Thanks again Cindy!

Bill, I see the demographics of any organization as relevant to ALL organizations activities. And the "current" demographics like the number of ballots JUST sent out in an upcoming election are very relevant. The only thing I was "mad" about, was the fact that the board member of whom the question was originally asked, by a current member, blew off the question as trivial. My wife works in a regional office of a national organization, if any of their directors failed to provide any requested numbers or treated the request as trivial, they would have been asked to resign on the spot.

The demographics of the NTA(or any organization) both past and current, are an indication of what it IS doing and what it HAS done for it's members. Both current and prospective members should be able to access them at any time. Board members should be constantly monitoring them and using them to figure out how to better service the membership and increase it. To Cindy Crain's credit, she realized the importance of keeping the membership informed.
