Dry Preserve Question

Discussion in 'Tanning' started by broken_tine, Jul 6, 2009.

  1. Is there a way to soften a skin that was dry preserved? A friend of mine preserved two deer hides this way and now wants me to soften them. I don't know of a method, but I told him I'd try. Other than beating them with shovel and rubbing leather oil in them I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

As far as I know there is no way. You might can brake them by hand but not to sure how it will be.

There's no way. If you try to break a DP hide, it will LITERALLY break eventually into two pieces. The hids needed to have been tanned.

  4. Thanks, that's kind of what I thought. Guess I could order a couple tanned hides and charge him for them. He'll think I did a great job! LOL
