Gar Skull preservation?

Discussion in 'Skulls and Skeletons' started by Deerslayer08, Jul 6, 2009.

  1. This summer bowfishing we have finally been tying into some gar, and I was thinking of preserving the skulls of some of the bigger ones, but was wondering what is the best method of doing this, what with all the tiny teeth and stuff. Any tips would be appreciated.

Beetles will do it. Then acetone soak and Whiten.

  3. I pickled a few in formalin for ten days, then dried them. They look great you can use a dowl rod to hold the mouth open.
