experiment-- tan a preserved hide

Discussion in 'Tanning' started by snowman623, Aug 10, 2009.

  1. I don't know if anyone has tried it, but it worked. I'm doing a re-mount that was dry preserved and I saved a piece of hide about 6x6 inches. I rubbed stop-rot on it and froze it. Later got it out, Krowtanned it, thinned it, oiled it. It lost no hair and has dried to a soft leather. I had my doubts because it seemed a little less soft and stretchy after the krowtann than other hides, but it seemed to work ok.
