The difference in a wet tan versus a dry tan is the wet tan hide has gone through the tanning process, but not the entire finishing process as the dry tan, the wet tanned hide can be prepped and either frozen for mounting at a later date or mounted right away without much rehydration, as a dry tan has gone completely through the tanning process, the fibers have been broken and softened and supple, the hide is holding very little moisture, example what a fur coat is made from, a dry tan fur skin can be stored in a dry environment shelf, hung up for future mounting or display , and if for mounting will have to be wetted or rehydrated before being able to work with for mounting on a mannequin or form .
