Tanning a muskox hide

    I have a uncle that has had a Muskox hide in his freezer for over 15 years, if this hide was salted, would it still be ok to tan or will the hair all fall out, My first reaction is that it will. Any comments?
    He has no idea as to how it was handled. He got it sent to him in winter and just put it in the freezer.
