It's amazing that everyone always thinks that stuff like this is a joke. I worked for a man that had one but that was 20 years ago.

I can do some checking with some friends around here a lot of the old timer ranchers used to have them hanging on the walls but if I remember right to make them I think it was done more like making Jerky. You soak it in a Salt brine and then position it in the shape you want and let it dry.

You don't see them very often anymore but they are still out there. Some of those Old Ranchers would hang them on the wall just like an old rifle. Must often the wives would put up with it because da old man would swat them in the backside with it for getting uppity.

Let me check on it and I'll see what I can find.

Anyway You can soak or inject or however you choose to preserve it. Then hang to let dry and shellac or send off to be freezedried then shellac to seal.

  6. Would you reinforce it with a dowel or steel rod? I believe they are freeze dried and shellaced. At least the couple I've seen...

    This company sells them....

I would think a salt/acid pickle would work, I am just concerned about it not getting hard, I have seen one & it was almost like rawhide. Someone on here must of done one !.

Loolks like a 5/16 metal rod inserted into a penis. I would think that after removing the streffing a coat of stop rot on it until its dried and then coated with varnish. Or after soaked in A formalin solution then the metal rod and dried.

  18. I called a guy who runs a wholesale sporting goods supply i shop from and he put me in touch with a taxidermist who regulalry does snakes and pheasant for his Christmas season gifts...the same guy does novelties such as bull penis canes and bull scrotum candy sacks..

He said a 5/8ths rod into the penis and a soaking in either denatured alcohol or some sort of strong based preservative...formaydehyde i guess and a good varish or shellec with a rubber stopper nub at the tip...He said these things dry pretty hard but the ends are not strong enough to stand on their own without the tips breaking from repeated force from use, hence the rubber tips.

lol rubber isn't going to keep the tip from breaking that is what the rod is for! the rubber tip keeps the rod from scratching floors and also so the cane has traction and doesn't slip out from someone using it. You can't figure out what a rubber tip on a cane is for any you were giving tanning advice in another thread? OOOOOKKKAAAAYYYY!
