Thanks to you all. So many nice words that Gary and I and his family much appreciate.

Gary would have been thrilled to meet and get to know each one of you. He would have been proud to share with you and call you a friend. You would have liked him.

I'm sure many of you have lost people close to you and have had to go on keeping their memory and the hurt of their loss close to your heart.

Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers to Gary and for helping me deal with the loss of my dear, dear friend.

A couple more pics........the crappie is the "Best of Category" in the Intermmediate division at the 2009 carving competition in St. Charles, Mo.

My prayers are with you and Gary's family Doug.
His work is truly, truly amazing.
Maybe you could make a thread that showcases more of Gary's carvings that could be a source of inspiration for us all.
The few I've seen leave me wanting more.
    God Bless.

Just got on here and read all this. Doug sorry to here this. Sounds like he was a very good friend. As a fellow wood carver I never had the chance to meet Mr. Cichy. His work has so much realism to it and the ability to create such art as he did just amazes me.
Again, sorry for the loss of your friend and take care Doug.

As a fellow carver, I was blown away with his Crappie at the World show. Best Black Crappie I ever saw. I was so sure he would win Best in World in the near future. Amazing artist! Nice Guy too. I know you will miss him. Sorry for your loss.

    Although,..........

Although I never met him, I did like his crappie at the World Show this year. I only took a few pics of carvings that caught my attention and obviously his work was at the top! It is work like his that is motivating me to try fish wood carvings.

Prayers for his family & friends.

    Definitely a very talented artist.

    :)

  9. This is a GREAT idea.
Start a tribute thread and fill it with pictures, and see if Ken could sticky it to the top.

Doug, so sorry to hear about the loss of your good friend!! Everytime talented people die in whatever field they are in, one always has to wonder what contribution to that field are we going to miss now that could have propelled the art or talent into a higher level. I'm sure he and his talent still had a tremendous amount to offer to wildlife artistry. God Bless as He always does and may God be with his family in this time of terrible grief!!!!!

  15. Doug, so sorry to hear. Best firends are the fabric of our lives and loosing one is like losing a close family member. So sorry for your loss. Enjoy ther memories, they will last forever
