Old Taxidermy books

Discussion in 'Taxidermy History' started by J Adams, Jan 20, 2010.

  1. Just wanted to show off some of the old books I first took an interest in Taxidermy from. I got these from my uncle who was a taxidermist. I think one of the first animals/birds I ever tried was a Blue Jay. I was around 11-12 years old and a little to rebellious with my B-Bgun at the time lol. Anyway just thought I would share, They are in poor condition now, I'm not even sure when these were printed ??? My uncle learned from these as well.

Too cool !!! I have a few old books myself. I love to read them and see how drastically things have changed compared to today's way of doing taxidermy.

I have that same set! I dont remember the date on them though... 1960s maybe? Pretty sweet!

  9. That's cool. Those are the first taxidermy books I'd ever read also. It was in the early 80's and I was 12 years old. Got them from my aunt. I liked the way they taught to shoulder mount a deer with the original skull, a 2x4 and a wrapped neck and shoulder. I couldn't imagine doing a deer like that. I wish I had kept my old Northwestern books.

One of the greatest books I've read, "My way of becoming a hunter" by Robert Rockwell.

As you can tell I love books.

I also have a bunch of old books. I love em, and cant get enough of them. Thats a hint to those of you with extra copies, lol. I do have to look up my own copy of the Rockwell book. For a taxidermist who likes history and lives in NY state where the Museum of Natural History is, and NOT have that book, would be a crime!

  20. Great stuff Nyati! I'm going to have to look for " My way of becoming a hunter." That book looks excellent.
