Leather Coat Cleaning Question

Discussion in 'Tanning' started by WildAboutFowl, Dec 13, 2010.

  1. My leather coat got laid across an oil lamp yesterday. It laid againt the wick and suck up oil from the lamp into the leather.
Is there any home remedy to clean it or get the oil out? Thank you for you time and consideration.

  2. Talk to a dry cleaner, if they don't think it will work check for soaps that are made for cleaning leather. I know a finishing plant that has cleaners, if you strike out with the dry cleaners and can't find anything let me know and I'll give them a call.

  3. Thank you for your reply. We have a cleaners here is town that does it, but many years ago, I took a suede leather coat to them many years
ago and they total ruined it. Never could wear it again. Was mainly looking for some ancient chinese secret here that might work.

  4. I'm afraid if you try to spot clean it you'll end up with a discolored area?
