Bunch of Bird paintings (new pg. 4)

Discussion in 'Wildlife Artwork and Crafts' started by Nambroth, Dec 21, 2010.

  1. I mostly lurk because I am pretty shy amongst so many skilled artists (taxidermists and other artists alike) but I've got two people kindly hounding me to put some of my work up here. :)
I'm still very much learning and I know some of these have errors. I'm very green behind the ears still. :)

    WOW. Look great to me.

    Really like the bufflehead.

Looks to me like some really beautiful work. My favorite is the pintails, but I'm a sucker for pintails. I also like the turkeys, the scene reminds me of my favorite time to hunt turkeys... Right after a cool early morning rain with the fog just starting to burn off.

Turkey one is the best I think. The others look too much like photographs for me.

Thanks! Yes, these were all painted for competitions for duck stamps (the turkeys were for an upland stamp). I never do very well but I am up against the big names and I'm still a newbie. :)

I'm not over on this side of the tracks too often, but I do draw some so I can appreciate the talent over here. Just thought I would comment on the outstanding work. The realism is incredible. Thanks for posting........

Both Brians, thank you! Very kind of you.

I am with you there... I am not too keen on acrylic either. But my 'studio' is a room I share with my pet birds and I am always very careful to use supplies that won't harm them. Of course only after I invested in a nice acrylic set was I educated that one can use oils with little/no odor! The way I was taught I used a lot of solvents and the fumes were bad. Now I just have to wait till I can afford oils. :)

I really like your work, but why the obsession with oils ? if you can produce work like this in acrylics why change, I used to paint in oils then changed to water colours and have never went back. Years ago you could have easily made a living producing work like this, but unfortunately there are now lots of artists producing outstanding work , stick at it, you have a talent and one day things will work out for you.
