READ THIS Before Posting In This Section
For several months, the moderators have been diligent in trying to make the For Sale Forum run more smoothly and fairly. To prevent unauthorized bumping of posts back to the top of the list, moderators have been removing most of the replies to messages as well as encouraging that questions and correspondence between buyers and sellers should be handled privately.

In an effort to be as fair as possible to all users of the For Sale Forum, we have made some fundamental changes to the way this section works.

    No Bumping for 7 Days
We have reduced the time for bumping (or reposting) from 10 days to 7 days. After 7 days, we will allow TTT (To The Top) replies which will bring a topic back to the top of the listing on the first page. However, we will be limiting the responses made within the seven day period on For Sale posts.

Limit Replies in the For Sale Section
Replies are no longer allowed to topics in this section. If you wish to respond to a For Sale listing, or if you have a question for the seller, you should click on the seller's name to send them a PM (private message), or click on the envelope beneath their name to send them an email.

Sellers are encouraged to give clear indication in their listing as to how they wish to be contacted, either by PM, email or phone.

The original author of a post may add replies to their own post, as long as they follow the rules against bumping within the first 7 days. If you need to update information in your post during the first seven days after posting, your post should be modified to prevent bumping. After seven days, the original author may add a new response to bump the post back to the top of the list.

Combine Multiple Items Into a Single Post
If a seller has multiple items with multiple photos which require more than one entry to fully describe, replies will be allowed if they are made immediately after the initial post.

If a seller has multiple items to list, they should combine all of the items in a single post to eliminate the perception of monopolizing the front page of the category with multiple posts from a single seller.

If a seller has entirely new items to list within the 7 day bump period, a new post is allowed, but sellers abusing this rule on a regular basis will face deletion.

    Taxidermy-Related Items Only Please
Items posted in the mail For Sale or Wanted sections should be directly related to taxidermy such as skins, horns, taxidermy specimens, taxidermy tools and equipment, taxidermy books and magazines, reference books and photos.

Hunts, calls, fishing gear, trapping equipment, hunting equipment, firearms or ammunition will not be allowed in the For Sale section. There are other places on the web which are more appropriate for these types of items, and their presence here only dilutes the usefulness of this unique taxidermy marketplace.

If you want to have a discussion about prices, value, supply, demand, quality, shipping, sellers, or anything related to the taxidermy marketplace, please head on over to the "Buyers and Sellers" category, where back and forth dialogue is welcome.

Other important information for buyers and sellers:
Make sure you know your state and federal laws before you buy or you could end up in very serious trouble! Here are some helpful posts that used to be pinned to the top of this category, but have been un-pinned to allow more room on the first page for For Sale posts. Please read them before making any transactions with sellers or buyers found here.

Just a reminder from the moderators...

I know money is tight and folks are wanting their sale items to stay on top, or on the first pages, but in the interest of fairness to everyone who posts here, we have to keep the rules. The first posts of this category outline and explain some of these rules, and you can go to "forum rules" for them too. Quickly, heres a reminder...

Wait ten days to bump your post with "ttt" which is "to the top". Also, "all PMs returned" is bumping. If you returned them, they already know it.

If you have new info, added pics, or discounts and updates, either edit your original post so everyone reads it, or wait those ten days before you update or add additional info on a seperate posting.

If folks reading the for sale posat feel the need to point out info for the seller, or ask specific info they should PM or email or call, as the post directs them. Debates over what is legal, or suggestions on how to ship, or not shooting specimens in the head, for example, can be done privately or in a seperate post in another category.

When the moderators are informed by the readers via "reported post" that someone is breaking these simple rules, we do edit again in the interest of being fair to all who are selling. Repeat offenders will notice their post removed. You need to wait the ten days.

We hope everyone is successful buying and selling, so lets be considerate of each other, thanks.

Another reminder...posting comments that discourage sales

Do not post comments that detract from or discourage sales in another members for sale post. Things like "thats too much money" or "thats a lousy mount" or "I can get you one cheaper" or that score is wrong in my expert(?) opinion" or "really?" and so on...

If you feel your advice is needed, simply PM them. Be considerate of one another here. This also allows all of you the same opportunity here in the for sale section. Im sorry this seems so gruff, but come on, we shouldnt even have to tell people this. Remember, courtesy.

Do we really need to say this again???

"all PMs returned"...really? Yes, they know that, if you returned it...thats bumping.

"price reduced"...either edit your original post, or wait ten days...thats bumping

"nice animal"...some folks post that on every sale item...thats still bumping

"wish I had the cash"...for some of you, this comment becomes chronic...thats bumping

"did you catch that RARE brown coyote near old Freds place?" Those exchanges are fine, in PMs or in another category...bumping

Add to that post after post of pics, put them together or at least at the same time so its not bumping, or bringing it to the top.

Add to that multiple listings by one seller in seperate posts instead of a nice list in one post, which should be done out of courtesy to other sellers.

A few of you are just ignoring our for sale category rules. We have been editing you, some of you daily. We are going to start just deleting posts of repeat rule violators. The for sale category is crowded and busy, and needs to run as smoothly as possible. Please be courteous to fellow sellers, it also makes it easier for prospective buyers to buy, too. If you wish to ask questions or comment, do so in PMs. Sellers can answer them that way too.

I dont want to sound like the bad guy here, but we all need to play fair. Thank you and good luck with your sales and purchases.

Re: Just a reminder from the moderators...

Folks, this site is visited by taxidermists and artists all over the world, not just the US. We do our best to edit or remove posts we feel are from scam artists. Others, although not "speaking" good english, may be selling overseas. It has to remain buyer beware though, its not our responsibility to warn newcomers. Please, like I just got through posting, if you see a post that appears suspicious, just report it to the moderators, for Ken to review. Thanks.

There's a New Sheriff in Town!

I am pleased to announce that Michael J Vaden has accepted the position of Moderator for the "Wanted", "For Sale" and "Buyers and Sellers" categories of the Taxidermy Net Forum. For years, Michael has been helping us behind the scenes to eliminate scams and identify questionable accounts of individuals who only wanted to cheat members through this Forum.

Michael also has a brilliant mind when it comes to understanding the complicated legalities of importing and exporting species as well as international protection and policies. He has always been our go-to guy for answers to complicated questions involving the trade of wildlife.

We are pleased that Michael will now have an official presence here to help keep the For Sale and Wanted categories running smoothly. He will have the authority to edit posts, delete posts, merge posts, move posts, split posts, rename posts, sticky posts, lock posts, and ban members. I know that everyone who uses the Forum for buying and selling will appreciate the improvements which are sure to come with more consistent moderation. This should also help to cut down on the new scammers, as Michael has developed quite a sixth sense for sniffing out this sort of thing. Welcome aboard, Mike!

    a tip for selling

When you wish to sell multiple items, such as freezer cleanout, or end of season sale, etc...make your list detailed. Describe the colors youre saying are colored, for example.

Make sure to post where the items are being shipped from, and leave a zip code so potential buyers can get an idea of shipping cost, or distance.

If you post pics, and Id suggest you do, post it with the original post. You can also add to the original post anytime. Adding pics in a seperate later post, if before 7 days is still bumping, and we edit it.

Finally, give the potential buyer a way to contact you...phone number, request a PM or leave an email address.

To potential buyers, when the seller DOES post the contact info, dont ask in his thread anyway. It gets edited. The moderators here wish to keep the for sale section running fair and smoothly. Thanks!!!!

Thats understood Bob, youve always done it that way.
  14. Re: a tip for selling

Hey Bill. Little food for thought. Since the For Sale area is such a hot posting area is it time to consider splitting it up into multiple categories. I only mention it because an item can get listed & if noone replies to the post it can end up 4-5 pages back in as little as 2 days. I have no suggestions for subcategories but thought I'd mention it.

    Re: a tip for selling

Thats been suggested many times actually, but Im thinking its a mess for Ken to set up and manage or something like that, or hed have done so. I had hoped we could make it a listing type classified, where you list an ad, period. No comments can be added, just like a newspaper classified. For now though, just following the current rules will do, as most people know to read a few pages, or until they get to the 7 day ad age.

Bill, I plan on posting photos, but within minutes like Bob Wendt (as to not post too many items). Would I be going against any rules if I have a new item the next day but cannot post anymore photos due to size in the original "bump"?

Please let me know and thanks a ton!

    Re: a tip for selling

Ok I am not 100% up on this part, but I BELIEVE you can edit that first thread, or the last one still within the 7 day rule, and add additional pics. Ive seen where guys have many pics all in one posting, not ten posts for ten pics in one thread at a time. And yes, just like with Bob, if you add them after the additional for sale posting, put them in with it, not seperate and later. Id write Ken Edwards in the administrative section or PM him if youre still not sure.

Also, you can post new items in another post, just not that same day, so as to have a list of items separately on the first page. An additional new sale the next day, etc, is also ok, as per Ken.

Bottom line, we dont need to get crazy on the technicalities of the rules so much as use good courtesy and play fair so we all benefit in that section, buyers and sellers both.

The few times it happens, like today, I edit them. Remember, Im not on call here, so of course, be patient. More likely you are seeing the seller that has ads throughout the month, but then only visits the site to bump them once every couple of weeks, so they bump three or four or more ads all at once. Its not breaking the rules to do it, but yes, it would be nice if folks were more considerate sometimes. Some just honestly dont get in here often enough...but yes, some play the game.

On Kens post at top of page, post #1 says "or click on the envelope beneath their name to send them an email". I don't find that envelope any where under the sellers name. I do think that sellers would have a better chance of seeing my email compared to a coversation right now. It becomes blury when the moderators keep saying "send a PM" when its a conversation, not a PM.
