Does anyone have a good tutorial or know how African game animals' horns are scored? I have a real impressive (I think) Red Hartebeest set that I've just come into and I would like to know how it compares to others.

Google hasn't been too much help so far. ::) So, any experts out there?

    Thanks for your help!

Check the Safari Club site and see if they have their score sheets available. You're looking for Method 1. That's basically the length, measured on the front surface and the base circumference of each horn. If you do that and give the total I'll look up the scores in the book and tell you how it seems to rank.

I checked the SCI site, most of the site is closed off unless you are a member. But I will take a look and get back in just a bit. Thank you. :)

And to make it in, it needs to be at least 62, record is 69 ?/8

Length on the horns is 20" and the other is 20 1/8". The girth on the bases is 12" for both. The tip-tip spread is 5 1/4".

My record book shows the #1 scores 79 and my book is the 2000 edition.

So, all those measurements get added up? This one would be 64.16 (rounded to the nearest thenth). Sounds pretty good to me lol.
