How can you tell if a cape has been tanned incorrectly. I received a cape back from a tannery and it had a funny smell to it. Almost moldy and stale. There are a few darkish spots on it that wipe off when I spray it down. I am just hoping that it will not cause any long term problems with the mount or if i should even begin to mount it. Please advise.

  2. Was the Cape bagged in plastic and did it take more than 3 or 4 days to arrive... or did it sit in very warm weather? It sounds like mildew, and shouldn't hurt the cape at all. Next time either ship in Paper or pay for rush shipping, if that is the case.

  4. When the tannery doesn't change the tumbling medium as often as they should, it will leave a moldy smell but won't hurt the skin itself.
