  2. Is it called fine mixing salt or stock salt? If it's fine mixing salt it is good to use.

is there any reason one can't use pool salt from Walmart?

  5. If it's pure fine salt why not. Not knowing anything about pool salt it may have other chemicals blended for water chemistry. Expense might be an issue. The fine mixing salt is cheap at 4 bucks for 50 pounds.

$4.00 bucks per 50 is CHEAP!!!! I'm paying $8.50 right from the feedmill here in Wisconsin.

I'm like John and don't really know about pool salt, but I suspect it's rather coarse. Remember, the finer the salt, the better the saturation and coverage, thus more effective. Any pure salt (NaCl) will work but IMO nothing beats good baker's salt.

the pool salt at Walmart is iodine free and pretty fine. it is about $4 or so for 40 lbs i think.
George where do you get baker's salt?

  9. I just picked up 320lbs at $6.99 per 80lb bag for Morton's fine mixing salt here. I have compared to fine table salt in size and it is ever so slightly larger. Some other brands I have seen are called fine but is quite a bit larger. Morton's seems much cleaner than other brands as well, stock grade will have more trash so to speak.

  10. the stuff I get is Mortons fine mixing salt. Key word fine.
