Mystery beast hide

Discussion in 'Beginners' started by Clementine, Jun 22, 2011.

  1. Saw this for sale on craigslist.

Any ideas? Looks wide like a cow with white strips...looks african.

  2. It's African, don't know the name of it, but I can picture it in my head.
    $50 isn't a bad price.

It is African and I've seen one for sale before... not certain of the name though. Might be a female Nyala? http://www.bushveld.co.za/animal-pictures-nyala.htm I honestly have no knowledge on anything African though.
  4. Kudu or Nyala, looks like.
  5. Female Nyala, that's it.

This is a Kudu back hide , I have one and I would not think just a backhide would be worth 50 bucks but it is cheaper that going over to get your own.
  8. Just referenced some kudu photos, and I think it's a Kudu.

Nyala was my first thought, but the strip patterns are slightly different.

Hard to tell. Kudu have more white hairs down the back and nyala have a shorter, bushier tail. Looks like the more rare bongo.

Based on the size and color, it's a Kudu back half.
