Moyle Mink

Discussion in 'Tanning' started by J P Baker, Sep 25, 2011.

  1. OK .... Sometime back I did a search here for who did a good garment tan. What I found was that Moyle Mink was supposed to be the best. Well, I'm here to say I just received my Coyotes and they SUCK !! The tan is not even close to being soft

When you say soft are you talking about the leather or the hair?

  3. They do all My Blanket and Coat Coyotes and Do a beautiful job on my northern yotes... But I flesh and Salt and don't air dry. Eastern and Southern coyotes have MUCH thicker leather that naturally does not tan up as nice.

  4. The fur is nice. The leather has a nice smell but it is hard.

I flesh & salt and yes they are southern coyotes. Your saying that Northern Coyotes have a thinner skin than Southern Coyotes?

  5. Definately. THe skin on alot of our yotes are comparable to a red fox in thickness. While Eastern and Southern Coyotes have Thick skin, Like a Beaver or Badger.

  6. I have been trying to call them and no one answers the phone and their mail boxes are full, any body have a clue whats going on. They have had my stuff for some time now and I'm starting to get worried

You needed their 'intact' tan....not garment tan. They explain it in their literature. Mine are always butter soft.

I just recieved three timber wolves back from Moyles. One is thier taxidermy tan and two are garment tan. All are "really" fine as in all are very soft and very clean and very nice. Furs, flat skins and bison is what they really excell at from my experience with them. Capes not so much but I know they are trying to produce a great product with them also.

I had 9 coyotes and 2 beaver garment tanned and they came back real nice, however it took almost twice as long as what they said it would take and I had a hard time getting through to them. Then I talked with a guy that sends his stuff there and said they were shut down for awhile because some CITIES tags were missing or something like that but when I finally got ahold of them, they said some of their machines broke down.

  12. My mistake for calling it a garment tan. I looked at my invoice to double check and I was charged for "intact tan". Here is what is on their site

"Intact Fur Dressing | Employed in the dressing of fur bearers, this process uses slightly modified fur dressing techniques to provide garment-quality softness, cleanliness, and free-flowing fur on intact skins that can be used either in the production of garments and crafts or as wall-hangers."

I did not get garment-quality softness what I received are intact hides that are hard . Nothing on their site says beware southern coyotes have thinker hides so they won't be soft.
