How to skin a bear

Discussion in 'Lifesize Mammals' started by bpbigperm, Nov 20, 2011.

  1. I am headed out this next weekend to bear hunt in a really good area for bears with some friends. I would like a full body mount on this black bear. Do you have any tips on the field skinning for a black bear if I can fill my tag? I have done 100 or so birds, but no life size mammals. I am assuming I would start inside the hind legs, y back into the belly, up to the front legs and y put from there. Get it to the paws and cut the ankle. Any advise would be great.

LordRusty If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

A "flat skin" Ventral Insicion for lifesize or rug ...

Dorsal Insicion and leg insicions for lifesize. Very easy to hide on a Bear!

Another version of the Ventral Insicion for lifesize ...

In all Ventral Insicion work, be sure to move the sex organs of the male off to one side. It is easier to skin and mount these details if they are not split open. Also note cutting around the foot pads instead of through them. Makes for an easier closing during the sewing up phase.
