Unfortunately this guy had expired quite a bit before he got to me (client brought him in), so there aren't any really good shots of the whole thing. But even expired I thought the side markings showed up well, so here they are.

    Re: SW Alaska chum salmon

Looking back over the others.... There is obvious discoloration to parts of the mouth, but the teeth show up pretty well in this one, so thought I would add it.

This is my first attempt at posting a photo.
This is a SE chum salmon. I have a bunch of ref photos if I can get this to work.

Thanks bonnie, people would be surprised how quick colors fade on these fish after you catch them. i'll do a couple on the other fish i caught later on.

  15. I used to think these fish were bizarre.....but have come to love their chaotic beauty. Problem with chums is once they hit fresh water they start to break down quick and there is a very narrow window when they are in their spectacular spawning colors. My experience tells me that is probably about a week at the most then they start to get mossy, moldy and flaky....haven't seen too many mounts like that. These three were all caught on a single trip to Montana Creek here in Alaska and they were in all their glory....the first is a male with quite the nasty dentition.....
