Any interest in following along while I build new aviary? I start construction next week and will post pictures and comments as I go if there are folks that are planning there own.
10 years of this and I have made every mistake possible and have planned this pen based on all those mistakes, it will be the ultimate for comfort safety and size.

    Construction begins today.
I have blown all the snow out of the area, marked off a perfect square using the 3,4,5 triangle rule to make a perfect right angle. This pen will be used for breeder birds and will be 48x48 in size with a 10x20 or so pond in the center. I have found that square pens at least 40x40 work best and give the birds enough room to work around you when in there mowing grass etc.
    More pictures to follow.

Week one is complete. Here the ditch to the main drain line has been dug in as well as a 2 foot deep trench that the post and pen walls will be built into. I will go into detail once the post are in and the walls are being erected.
We used a laser level to make sure we kept 2 1/2inches of slope per 10 foot of trench in order to carry the water and any debris downhill to the main line.
Here we are in the last corner of the pen and the pond and all trenching are complete.

3.5 hours of backhoe use at $100 per/hour. You can keep track as I go.
