What is the best way to keep the hide from pulling away from the antlers on a whitetail? Can't seem to get them to stay tight against the burrs. Thanks for the help
  2. you might have the pedicals too far back, or may not be tight when your sewing, and shaving thin will reduce shrinking. just a few thoughts.

I agree, but good glue and the way you sew will help. Try sewing a coin purse stitch about 3/8 of an inch from the edge around the burr, then connect the two end s, pull tight and tie off, then continue closure.

George The older I get, the better I was.

Build a small Apoxie ring around the base of the antler so that you stitch has a brace to hold the hide up. Purse string your stitch. When you're finished mounting, take a pin and see if you can pull the hide our from under the pedicel. If you can, take superglue and fill that void before pressing the hide back down on the skull.
