What kind of duck?

Discussion in 'Bird Taxidermy' started by Rhasputin, Jun 4, 2012.

  1. A friend of mine picked up this duckling at a trade show. It was sold as a mallard, which I'm pretty sure it CLEARLY isn't, but I have no idea what it -is-.

    Ideas?

Just compared to all the baby ducks in Delacour's books.Waterfowl of the World. Couldn't find the exact one. When it grows up then you can tell for sure. Probably some barnyard hybrid.

It's a baby bibbed mallard, or maybe a hybrid bibbed mallard X Muscovy like the one in the "What is this?" thread.

Feed it some crumbs and it may like you!

Looks to be a poorly marked "bibbed" breed, probably Black Swedish. Ideally the breed has a clearly marked white bib that doesn't run up into the upper neck and head.
