Is borax still the way to manage bird skins??

Discussion in 'Beginners' started by DannyB, Sep 20, 2012.

  1. Hi Guys, After 15 years of not mounting anything I finally managed to attack the pile of carcasses that recently appeared in my freezer from some avicultural friends. I had always used powdered borax as my chemical for smallish birds (yesterdays job was a roul roul - The biggest I do would be a small pheasant) but was wondering if there are now better products to use. I've read about products like Knobloch's bird tans but haven't been game to use them. I was pleasantly surprised at how well my specimens came out despite being a bit more clumsy than I remember.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Regards
    Danny
