Salt for Krowtann

Discussion in 'Tanning' started by mrsfirehog, Nov 29, 2012.

  1. I was getting Kleer Mixing Salt from my local feed store. Now they have added "Yellow Prussiate of Soda" to it. In researching, it says not to mix it with acid, which is in Krowtann. Now am having trouble finding Kleer Mixing Salt with out "YPS". Can I use Fine Stock Salt from Atwoods or Tractor Supply. Looks like it only has Sodium in it. Is this ok? I don't want to be having trouble with hides this time of year.

I currently use top flo non iodized salt from my local feed store. But I think I will be switching to this very same product very soon. It is cheaper to buy this than the top flo and tractor supply sells a lot of it. I feel this will be fine for your hides. My local butcher uses it to salt his deer and cow hides for tanning also. Just my 2 cents.
