I have a cape that I tanned two seasons ago of my own that I would still like to mount. With wife and kids, time and money hasn't allowed me to do them and the time I have is spent on other peoples mounts. I have looked at the cape and the nose area looks dried out (actually, it looks like leather) and am assuming the ears may be also. Have any of you worked on something like this? And, what would be the best coarse of action to take to rehydrate and use this cape for a mount?

That's what I was thinking, but didn't know if the salt brine would have any kind of adverse affect on the tan. I was wondering if a softening agent would work?
