It is pretty but that's a domestic short hair I'm afraid.

Put it on the road and run over it they will never know.

Karma is unkind, I say own up. It's not your fault anyway legally.

??? If his dog went to their house and killed their $1000 cat? I'm surprised he isn't responsible legally.

My lab Is on a wireless fence' so I'm good as far as legal terms' I hate that 'if I knew the owner I would tell them what happened' I'm just hoping it was a $1000 feral cat'lol

It could be a stumpy Manx, too, or a regular feral cat that had a tail mishap at some point. That coat pattern is pretty common in most kinds of domestic cats.
In any case, it wasn't being kept indoors where it would have been safe.
People who allow their animals to roam have already accepted the risk that they might someday fail to come home.

    I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think you are responsible in any way. If my dogs killed a cat in my yard I would feel bad for the cat/cat owner but I would not feel responsible. I would take the cat back to the owner so they can do the "shovel" part. Who knows what the circumstances were. Maybe a kid let the cat out by mistake or something. Taking the cat back to the owner does not mean you are claiming responsibility for it's death. Just something to think about.
