i have always been a nonbeliever when it came to the elusive "40 pound" bobcat. I kill quite a few bobcats, more than the average Joe. Then being a taxidermist on top of that i handle a lot of bobcats as well. The average bobcat brought for me to mount is 18-20 pounds, but i do mount a lot of 25 pounders and a couple that were 30 pounds. So up until this year i would not believe a 40 pounder being killed.. however while hunting for them this year i put my buddy on his first cat, little did i know it was the biggest bobcat i will probably ever get to hunt/mount.... granted this cat only weighed 36 pounds! but i could see that with a few more meals it could of easily hit that 40 pound mark. So to answer your question, I am going to have to say no on the photoshop!! and agree with bugs and bones.. nature makes them that big every now and then!!

Here in western Montana I have treed a lot of bobcats over 30 pounds. Keep in mind that bobcats in the midwest get far larger than ours. fourty pounders are not uncommon and fifty plus happens. I saw some cats that fed on the gut piles at Fraley's ranch in Kansas that were over fifty. Around here a 38 is the biggest i have caught and weighed. This one in the photo was just under 30.

I know someone else who had a 43 pounder a while back. The largest I have done is 39. Most are between 20 & 30.
