First time trying to rotate eyes and this just doesn't look quite right. Are the pupils supposed to be level to the ground as you are looking at the mount straight on or from the side? Here are some pics of what I have done, tell me where its wrong and how to fix it. I'm thinking I need to bring the pupil on the right eye up in the front corner.

I did this same exact rotation on a mulie last year and was slighlty off the one eye and possibly slightly extreme on the other eye almost same as what you have going on. Left eye is pretty good but may be slighlty over rotated. Same thing I did. Could be the anlge of pic taken but seems to be just slighly not level in the pupil too. Front appears very slightly down. Right eye is off. left eye is looking down while right eye is looking forward up. See how there is more white showing in the lower back part of the eye instead of the upper back part of the eye. I did slightly the same thing on mine. Should be rotated forward and down looking down into the front corner of the eye. Also the pupil is not level. Back needs to come down. Great presentation looks nice.

You needed to also rotate the eyes for leveling, like the animal does in that pose. One eye would begin to show sclera on the top and the other on the bottom. Your reference pics will shows this easily. Think of those pupils as focusing when level, that helps. If it were wet and I was there with you, we could easily twist them to look more focused and familiar to that pose.

Wouldn't the upper eye be basicly looking into the it's head? With the downward rotation of the bottom eye bulging out to look down. If you understand what I am trying to say? They are both going to try and look at the same spot aren't they?

Eye rotation eye sets are not easy to describe in words, sorry about that. I wish I knew how to do it with computer drawing, but I dont. But just check out any ruminant pics in this pose, itll explain. Remember guys, you also need to adjust the brow, and also the eyelid placement and eye opening for this pose as well.

BTW, I thought the mount overall looked good. The eyeset, hopefully you can adjust it while wet, or relax it to do so.

Like 3bears said left eye is down but right eye is still looking forward they should both have the same focal point. Pick out a spot in your shop that the elk is looking at and try to have both eyes focus on that spot. This will also mean that the brows will shift, left brow should come back more and right brow will come in more. I do this with my dog at home alot, if you have a dog at home sit next to him looking in the same direction and whisper something to him and watch how his eyes and brow shift to you where the noise is coming from. Hope this made sense.

Thank Heavens for plastic bags and taxi net!! I can't tell you guys how much I appreciate you taking time to try and explain to me how to make this right! I spent a couple hours this morning trying to adjust it. (I'm suprised I didnt rub all the skin off around the eyes before I was done.) I thought it looked a little better, but after looking at the pics before and after it doesnt seem like I adjusted it as much as I thought I did. Thanks for the compliments on the mount! I felt like I had a good grasp on taxidermy work till it comes to trying something new then I realize how much I have to learn!
My thought with the mount was to have him looking back over his shoulder toward his left ear tip, without over doing it. Kind of like he was posturing and showing off his rack to another bull.
I do have a dog and I would love to try that experiment if I could get her to sit still for more than a second. She is a 9 month old german shorthair and full of way to much energy.
