ear position, one is higher than the other, eyes are set to deep in the form also

Ears set should be on the head, not the neck. Look at a skull, locate the ear canal, and you'll see what I mean...

  5. I'm not going to write everything I see is wrong because honestly it would take to long, but I will post a picture of live mule deer and you look at the picture and then you tell us whats wrong with it. Reference is the key...

One thing that really jumps out at me is the eye set, it's way too deep or your clay work is too heavy.

Did you mount this deer? or just wondering whats wrong with it? Not sure if your looking for help in your next mount or just curious because it doesn't look right to you.

Thanks for the help everyone, will be ripping this one apart and starting over. I knew there was a bunch of things wrong, just couldn't get it through my head. Yes I did mount this deer. My first one turned out great but this one turned out looking like crap. New to taxidermy and I've been on this site for over a month. I have been learning alot from here and just want to get better. Seen a bunch of people on here that are new and they get ragged on hard. But i can take it. Things that I've done wrong will fix for the next one.

    Thanks Syms

Yea, it looks like you are still guessing at everything. Did you invest anything at all as for training videos? Rick Carters video will have made that mount closer to a deer than just a learning mistake.

  11. It looks like it is going to fly off of the wall with that ear set.

Nose pad- not sure why you bring the dark brown all the way down but very incorrect. Looks like he has hair between the nose pad and lip line. Test fit your nose pad before you mount, carve the nostril openings so the nose pad lines up with the edge of the openings, no hair showing. When you texture the pad, again use reference. Follow the pattern of the deers skin, not random large blotches. Put a wash coat over the top when dry to blend. Take your time and use reference carefully in round two. Good luck!

  14. The antlers look good.

Just thought I would toss a positive feature in the mix... :)

You need to add clay work to the eye's. It looks like you set the eye's in the form and did not do the required clay work to build up the brow and such.
