    They look so rough in flight. Nothing like everyone's well preened, perfect flying birds.

  5. Aw, give them a break Adam - you'd probably look rough too if you'd just been trapped, measured and banded before being released in front of a camera! ;)

    That's what i was wondering when I posted this link. Were they just mishandled, were they molting or are flying birds really disheveled? I couldn't believe how rough looking they were in the photos.

    I always chuckle when I see actual bids in flight. Different feathers in disarray and we have to mount them without a feather out of place.
     
  8. I don't think they were mishandled, it just doesn't seem to take much from our big mitts to leave birds looking ratty. As pointed out, live birds don't look as well-groomed as ones mounted by the best taxidermists, but they aren't usually as disheveled as these ones.
